About Yorkshire In Bloom

Yorkshire in Bloom is the voluntary regional organisation that administers the In Bloom competition in North, South, East and West Yorkshire, North and North-East Lincolnshire.  Britain in Bloom is one of the most effective, and longest running environmental competitions in the United Kingdom and Europe, and each year it grows in size and importance and involves more people, groups and organisations.

The show of flowers in otherwise drab grey streets, the landscaping of derelict and marginal land, the enhancement of our towns and pride in our villages is the aim and indeed the success of the competition.  None of this could be achieved without the enthusiasm of the whole community working together to improve their local environment and the recognition that involvement in Yorkshire in Bloom can bring is an important factor and often the catalyst for action.

Many small and large villages and towns in the region are judged for floral displays both in Spring and Summer 2007.  The large towns in the region are judged in Summer as well as special categories of the competition which include public, private and charitable establishments, commercial premises, tourist and visitor attractions, tourist residential accommodation, caravan and camping sites, new housing developments, youth environmental projects, War Memorials and a Millennium Project competition.  The competition contributes to the regeneration of our towns and cities and helps to provide an attractive environment for both visitors and the local community.

Halifax will be judged on the following categories:

Floral Displays
Design and quality of features and displays, standards of maintenance, including grass cutting. Evidence of spring displays and autumn colour will also be considered.
